After an Entire week for being ill.Finally my daily routine comes back, yet the summer is coming as well.
At 23rd of April I had a very fascinating art night in Louis Vuttion Espace Munich, the opening of mono graphic visual exhibition by Cory Arcangel ”Be the first of your friends” . As the young generation of artist, Corl has the similar growing experiences with many of us : The witnesses of experiencing digital/internet revolution.“Be the first of your friends”, this title reflects the current social media cultures, he created all these arts with various knowledge together such as program design, music writing and art making, to represent his perspective of this digital modern era, yet also built his own identity.
Maybe many people think there is a lot of competition between artists, sometimes to critique other’s work will be influenced your own style. But actually a unique style based on the personal unique experiences could not be replaced that easy, as long as you are insisting on being yourself and not someone else. An artist needs to watch other’s work more often to extend their perspectives. For example, if you only live in your own tiny world, slowly you start to feel like you are the centre of this world, and that would be quite scary, narrow mindedness and a lack of creativity ensues and as such what you output is tepid at best. So to view and critique, to learn and explore the works of others is a stimulating part of any Artist.
Let’s go back to the exhibition. Corl’s works are experimental, instead of expressing the metaphysical meaning, he changes the angle to focus on the generation itself. His inspiration comes from Consoles of the Retro Kind, smart phones , social media and many other modern productions. It makes his works get really close to the young audiences as well as grip their attention . Time has moves on so fast as always, in terms of technological development it doubles every year giving birth to new ways of how computer games are played, of how humans interact with the technological or digital. Sciences & Technology, keeps changing the form of Arts.
The technical skill and his background in such fields gives him a wonderful ability to merge Art in the form of Retro computer game with a strong sense of self expression, what better way to express one self than with vibrant colours and point blank to your face font.
The Exhibition started from 24th April to August 8th at Espace Louis Vuitton München.
