Since textile print become a important branch of fashion, especially digital print more and more popular in the fashion industry, fashion designers have more inspirations than before (and the means and technology to use older prints). Painting art is always the favorite and biggest inspiration of designers, artistic print design makes the whole outfit look unique and interesting, print is a great way to show modern feminine taste, now we have many chances to “wear arts on our body.”
As a illustrator I couldn’t help myself but to fall in love with art prints.
Many of my friend saw me and said ” My god you are so crazy how could you mix so many different paintings on your outfit.” I remembered that I post a similar outfit before, during fashion week I mixed these 2 drawing pattern items again. D&G skirt used italian Renaissance painting as print, from 14th–17th centuries,Renaissance was one of the most important art style in western art history, artist started to paint gentle, peaceful and warm topics compared to older religious paintings. Which was not much about anything really but biblical figures, stories of (and i hope no one if offended if they have beliefs this is just fact of art) very bloody tales, sacrifice, mythology and other forms of religious themed depictions. Yohji Yamamoto blazer used 20s Asian beauty poser as inspirations, in the beginning of 20s century, Asia culture absorbed so much western cultures, 20s-30s beauty poser used western realistic style with asian brush painted method. There is a big contrast between Western classic art and Eastern art deco business painting, but somehow the gentle realistic style make they are fits each other. You also can tell the difference from European art and Asian art, isn’t interesting?
Artistic painted print is a representational way to keep timeless elements and create a new fashion style, It feels different to wear painting on your self as dress. As if a clear statement of personal tastes displayed for all to see. After all I would not ever wear anything if I did not like it. So the pictures I would wear or have printed on my clothes much be something I consider myself as “Art”. It isn’t anything new to combine the two mediums, yet it is always an eye catching style. Print can be also fun not only something constrained to classical art form but also modern, pop-art. Lastly, sometimes it can be thought that using this print type of a lazy form of fashion, but….im sure that it takes a brave designer to mix threw two mediums and make it work and look fashionable, stylish.

The skirt actually reproduces a work by Jean Jacques Louis David, “the farewell of telemachus and eucharis,” painted in the early 19th century. It is neoclassical in its aesthetics.
