It has been some time since I have last updated, as you can see….new site! With this in mind, I want to show my friends (Momo Wang) work as I have been in London recently. She has always seen her creative designs as a container of memories, of friends and their personalities. Each design is special one, as each design represents a person in her life that is close to her. This was the idea she has for her 2014 Pre Collection “Museum of Friendship”. What a great way to pay respect and show admiration to your friends than this?As her long time friend I am also a part of this project. Before London Fashion Week I came to London to be her Digital Photographer and one of the models for her pre collection (the pictures turned out wonderful ) , it was a fun experience and I was very happy to be a part of it as after all it took a lot of work for her to design the clothes which suit each of her friends in a such a specific way. We also had a sweet and private “Wedding” and I had a wonderful and handsome little model called Jindo (Momo’s little cat) tho I think he took a lot of the lime light!
Momo’s handcrafted designs which she spends so much care and attention on making sure every detail is exactly as she imagines, it always reminds me of antique pieces which you see displayed behind a thick piece of glass forbidding you to touch, so it is a Joy to be able to wear something so wonderful. Not only does she have various sources of inspiration from Ethnic to Victorian , all the fabric which is used in the construction of her clothes is real antique. She is the one of the most unique designers as she is able to utilize something old and turn it something new and amazing.
In her opinion , women have two most beautiful styles. One is the Brides Dress , the other is completely different which is a work or office uniform. Her goal was to combine the feminine and gentle part with a more strong and tough character of the work uniform to create a aesthetically pleasing balance. Since the idea hit her , she started to collect relevant references and post them on her moood board albume. We could see her ideas clearly from these sources she had gathered together. Victorian/Edwardian wedding dress, lace accessories, female military uniform from world war two, blazer with sporty vest . She mixed fragile lace, shaggy woolen, smooth plastic and the rough coco gunny bag all together in her clothes making , it sound crazy yet it worked very well. It all went together amazingly well when you saw the real and final piece. As if, she had some magical powers of combining the impossible. Considering it took me an hour to do one piece of stitching of an accessory and her five minutes…it really shows her skill and talent. A talent which I was happy to be a part of during my visit to London.
These handcraft pieces will presented by International Showcase 2014 from 14th- 23rd, Feb at 180 The Strand WC2R 1EA, London.
